About this course

On completion of this module, you will be able to evaluate the strategic nature, influence, and contribution of supply network design and operations to overall business strategy, as well as assess the role of resource planning and control in achieving organisational objectives. This module helps you understand how organisations are embedded within wider supply networks and how the structure, configuration, and design of these networks affect organisational performance, competitiveness, and value creation. You will explore the principles of network design, including the relationship between supply networks and supply chains, the factors influencing network configuration, and the strategic decisions organisations must make regarding sourcing, capacity, location, outsourcing, and integration.Through this module, you will examine how operations strategy contributes to business success and how well-aligned operations can drive competitive advantage. You will analyse the elements that make up an effective operations strategy, including performance objectives, trade-offs, capacity decisions, and the alignment of resources with market requirements. The module also guides you through the core mechanics of resource planning and control, including scheduling, sequencing, loading, monitoring, and managing customer and supplier interfaces. You will evaluate different approaches to monitoring and controlling operations and explore tools such as MRP, TOC, ERP, and other integrated planning systems.
