Master's Programme in Biomedicine

The first semester starts with a course in Advanced Biomedicine. The course is composed of four Areas of Excellence at Umeå University: infections, cancer, metabolic diseases and the neurological system. In this course you will also be trained in bioinformatics, biostatistics, theory of knowledge and ethics.

After the first semester you will be presented with an abundance of biomedical courses to choose from and freely customise your own education. Project work on advanced level (30 ETSC credits) will give you the opportunity for in-depth knowledge in your field of choice or you can choose other courses in your field of interest like tumor biology, bacterial pathogenesis, structure and function of proteins etc.

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent first-cycle qualification comprising of at least 180 ECTS or a corresponding qualification from an internationally recognised university. Specific entry requirements are: 20 ECTS from completed courses in Chemistry, including at least 5 ECTS in Biochemistry, or alternatively, 20 ECTS from a combination of completed courses in Chemistry and Physics and/or Mathematics, including at least 5 ECTS in Biochemistry; and in addition, 5 ECTS in Classical Genetics, 7.5 ECTS in Cell Biology, and 15 ECTS in Human or Zoo Physiology including Immunology, Neurobiology and Pathology. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6.

The Master programme in Biomedicine will give you excellent knowledge and skills to use advanced scientific methods and will prepare you for PhD studies or the basis for job in pharmaceutical companies, with authorities or in the health care system.
