Introduction

Bachelor of Accounting is a Bachelor program taught at Universiti Malaya, . The program is offered in campus-based modes with full Time options. To successfully obtain Bachelor of Accounting from Universiti Malaya you are required to complete 137 credit hours. After completion of Bachelor of Accounting you will be able to further continue for advance studies or start career as Public Accountant, Accountant, Chartered Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Auditor.

Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements for admission in Bachelor of Accounting at Universiti Malaya for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

  • program specific academic requirment set by Universiti Malaya.
  • English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Universiti Malaya as pre-requiste for admission in Bachelor of Accounting.

Malaysian Applicants:

  1. Pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with at least:
    • grade B in Bahasa Melayu/ Bahasa Malaysia or July paper; and
    • pass in History; and
    • pass in Mathematics; and
    • pass in English Language

      AND

  2. Possess any one of the following qualifications:

    1. Pass the Matriculation Programme of the Ministry of Education (Malaysia) with a minimum CGPA of 3.30, with at least Grade B+ in any two (2) of these courses:

  1. Pass the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum CGPA of 3.30, with at least Grade B+ in any two (2) of these courses:

  1. GCE “A” level with at least Grade B in any two (2) of these subjects:
  • Accounting

  1. Australia Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT) with a minimum ATAR rank of 80 points; and
  • a minimum score of 16 points (High Achievement) in any two (2) of these subjects:

  • Chemistry
  • Economics
  • Physics

 

  1. International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with a minimum score of 35 points; and
  • a minimum grade 5 (Higher Level) in any two (2) of these subjects:

  • Physics

 

  1. Achieve a minimum of Band 3 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET); and

  2. Pass the University Entrance Interview.

    International Applicants:

  1. Possess any one of the following qualifications:

    1. National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level equivalent) with minimum score of 80%; and

      • at least Grade A- or 80% score in any two of these courses:

  1. A Diploma from recognized Institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.30; and
  • at least Grade A- or 80% score in any two of these courses:

  1. Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT) or 80 (IBT); or minimum IELTS Band 5.5.

  • Applicant may be required to undergo an interview session for certain selection programme before being accepted by the respective faculty.

More Information

UM’s Bachelor of Accounting programme is recognized both nationally and internationally. The programme is recognised under Schedule 1 Accountants Act 1967. Graduates of this programme are eligible to register as members of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), subject to three years practical accounting experience, as stipulated in Part IV of the Accountants Act 1967. 

At the end of the accounting programme, graduates are able to:

• Acquire knowledge in related accounting disciplines;

• Apply concepts, principles and techniques in related accounting disciplines;

• Demonstrate awareness of social responsibility;

• Demonstrate awareness of business ethics in a manner consistent with the    accounting profession;

• Show ability to communicate, lead and work in a team;
