Psychology is simply an empirical study that aims to analyze the human "mind" by asking questions, such as "Who am I?" and "Who are other people?" By asking these types of questions, a deeper understanding and sense of affinity is produced toward human beings, leading to a wealth of viewpoints about our society which is made up of human beings. In this Department, students can learn both fundamental knowledge and the latest achievements in research from a wide perspective and in four areas: development, society, acknowledgment and clinical psychology. Furthermore, we emphasize participatory learning, which comprises investigation, experimentation and practical training, including analyzing data and inspecting the "mind" from a scientific perspective. In the contemporary era, there is an increase in the number of people who are in need of psychological care due to school absenteeism, depression or abuse. We also nurture students' abilities to continuously resolve these kinds of social issues. Moreover, we carry a history and tradition of more than 40 years, which began when we were still part of the College of Literature. During that period, we have sent many "professionals of the mind" into society. Students may apply for and obtain certification as certified psychologists from the Japan Psychological Association upon graduation.
