Introduction

Components of the Master of Arts in English and American Studies include the English language, its description and analysis in the context of current research, and the academic study of anglophone literature and cultures from the Middle Ages to the present. The curriculum allows students a great deal of flexibility; they can choose to study the field in a broad, all-encompassing manner, or they may specialize in either linguistics or literature and cultural studies. Emphasis is placed on demanding language courses for practical purposes, which means students must have an excellent command of English before they begin the program.

Admission Requirements

For this master's program you need a subject-specific bachelor's degree (minimum 6 semesters/180 ECTS-Credits) in English and/or American Studies, or an equivalent degree for a related subject (humanities, esp. modern languages, linguistics, literary studies). The bachelor's grade point average must be 2.5 or higher (German and US systems).
